The mechanical mouth seemed hearty enough,
spitting oaths to shoot them bandits

2026  Call  for  Submissions

Picture@300daysofsun_nsu

300 Days of Sun is accepting submissions for our next print issue from Sunday, February 1, 2026 at 8:00am PST  through Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 11:59pm PST or until we have received 300 submissions, whichever comes first. We will swiftly update our website and Instagram if we reach 300 submissions before March 15.

The journal is open to both genre fiction and literary fiction, and we appreciate attention to world-building and setting as well as character-driven works, especially those that incorporate intersectional identities. We admire poetry that is both traditional in form or that which is experimental so long as it’s authentic and emotionally resonant. Our editors are energized by works that ask readers to reevaluate their beliefs and perspectives–those that engage with tradition and history, even if that means pushing back against it. Our journal has no tolerance for hate speech, hateful content, or work that incites violence toward any group. Thus, to uphold 300 Days of Sun as an accepting and safe space for authors of all identities and professions, we will not include any work that is deemed racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise problematic by our staff. At the same time, we understand that writing can be therapeutic and exist as a space for social commentary, so we ask that authors share a content warning in their work for sensitive subject matter such as sexual assault, harassment, grooming, and gore. If you are unsure whether a content warning might be appropriate, we suggest including one just in case.

To submit: please email [email protected] with the subject line “FICTION SUBMISSION: Title of First Story” or “POETRY SUBMISSION: Title of First Poem.” Copy-paste your cover letter; third-person author bio, under 100 words; and your previously unpublished work(s) into the email body. Attachments will not be opened. “Unpublished” for 300 Days of Sun staff means that the work has not appeared in print or online in a publication that is affiliated with an institution or company. We consider works that have appeared on personal blogs and on social media “unpublished.”

Stories and poems that exceed the word/line counts, below, will not be accepted.
  • stories under 2,000 words
  • poems under 90 lines

You may submit up to three pieces total. Each piece of fiction should not exceed the 2,000 word count, and each poem should not exceed 90 lines.

Simultaneous submissions are permitted. If a submission is accepted elsewhere, please withdraw that submission by sending an email to [email protected] with the subject “WITHDRAW.”
Note that work accepted for this print issue may also appear online, either in part or in full. Authors retain copyright; 300 Days of Sun does not take ownership over work, but we do kindly ask for a shout-out if the work is reprinted elsewhere.

We are not seeking work by current Nevada State University students or faculty. If you are a student at the university and would like to get involved as a reader or editor, please email [email protected].

Payment for publication is two contributor copies.

We plan to respond to all submissions by April 15. If you have not heard from us by then, or if you have general inquiries about our journal, please email us at [email protected].
